This theater is dedicated to independent film and foreign language cinema, so it’s not your typical run-of-the-mill movie experience. If you’re looking for a quieter evening, head over to Hillcrest Cinemas. The bar is most well-known for Welfare Wednesdays ($2 well drinks) and their karaoke from Sunday-Tuesday. Flick’s is one of the original video bars in the United States and is arguably one of the best gay bars in San Diego. One of the best places to let loose and have a little fun is at Flick’s. It’s easy to let your hair hang down and come out of your shell in Hillcrest because there is such a welcoming, inviting atmosphere everywhere you go. The parade is considered to be the largest civic event in the city of San Diego. Every July, the streets of Hillcrest are the site of the annual Pride Parade.

Hillcrest is San Diego’s de facto gay community the neighborhood has been a safe space for LGBTQ individuals throughout the years and it headquarters many gay friendly establishments and organizations. The neighborhood is a lively, urban part of town that is known for its hip bars, award winning restaurants, and great shopping. Hillcrest is a centrally located neighborhood in San Diego that is surrounded by Balboa Park to the south, University Heights to the north, and North Park to the east.
